Why InsurAfrica and Why Now?

Lower smartphone prices are driving a digital revolution in Africa, allowing phone users to access the internet at unprecedented levels. Operators and developers are also leveraging the power of mobile networks to transform services in health, agriculture, education, energy and water management.

According to GMSA, the body which represents mobile operators globally, by the end of 2019, 5.2 billion people subscribed to mobile services globally, accounting for 67% of the global population. There will be around 600 million new subscribers by 2025 – mostly in India, China, Pakistan and Nigeria – for a total of 5.8 billion subscribers to mobile services (70% of the global population). The number of smartphone connections across the continent almost doubled over the last three years. More than half a billion people across Africa now subscribe to mobile services, with the number expected to grow to 725 million by 2025.

At the same time, hundreds of millions of people, families and businesses across Africa struggle for access to quality healthcare and less than 2% of household in Africa has an insurance cover. Africa region suffers more than 22% of the global burden of disease but has access to only 3% of health workers and less than 1% of world financial resources. In South Africa, the most recent data estimates one government-employed doctor for every 2,457 people not covered by medical aid. In private care, one medical aid-registered doctor sees between 429 and 571 people.

What if countries with highest numbers of health workers (North America, Europe and South Africa), could extend access to quality healthcare to those with the greatest burden of disease in the comfort of patient’s home without leaving their medical practice? What if the African Consumer market could access premium healthcare without the stress of facing traffic and travelling long distance to meet their Doctor?

InsurAfrica is on mission to make this dream a reality…provide a space where African can access affordable premium healthcare services in the comfort of their home or on-the-go while receiving the best digital insurance cover. InsurAfrica is on mission to make African happier, healthier, and performing at their best. Join the movement, take control of your health, get the best insurance cover and gain peace of mind.
